“The Italian illustration-design duo known as the Balbusso Twins (Anna and Elena) illustrated this year's Epson Calendario, Spectacular, producing a hypnotic series of lavish images that represent sports and dance in colorful patterns to calming and curative effect. (...) The result is a tour de force of illustrative design that makes each month extra special.”
— Steven Heller, PRINT Magazine / The Daily Heller

We are thrilled to share our collaboration for the 2024 Epson Calendar, titled "Spectacular". Marking the fourth edition of Epson's prestigious calendar series dedicated to contemporary illustration, this project invites viewers into a vivid visual narrative where the human figure becomes pure performance, dynamism, and speed.
“For the Epson Calendar, our desire was to create a visual narrative centered on the human figure that carried a powerful perceptual and emotional impact, enhancing the expressive force of color. We designed compositions where geometries, intricate patterns, circles, and lines interact with the moving human body, creating 'abstract spaces' that stimulate the vision. In dance, just as in sports disciplines, the body becomes a spectacle—it expresses talent, deep commitment, and the relentless will to overcome one's limits.”
— Anna and Elena Balbusso
The artistic mastery of this calendar is further celebrated by Art Director Gianluca Folì, who noted:
“The artistic duo Balbusso Twins interprets the fourth edition of the Epson Calendar dedicated to illustration. Through their refined formal and conceptual research, we are guided through vibrant colors and rhythmic compositions to discover the human body and its intimate exaltation. This is a journey of the most classic kind, yet entirely distant from any stereotypical vision.”

To bring this powerful, kinetic vision to life, we developed a highly specialized mixed media technique that bridges our dual creative approach, blending handcrafted physical elements with advanced digital production:
The 2024 Epson Calendar is the result of a profound synergy between artistic creation and cutting-edge printing technology. Produced as a limited run of 800 numbered copies, the project required the printing of 10,400 individual plates directly onto museum-quality Fine Art paper. To guarantee an absolutely impeccable result, the artwork was printed by Opificio Arte Stampata, a premier Digigraphie certified laboratory. Utilizing state-of-the-art Epson SureColor P7500 printers and Epson UltraChrome Pro12 K3 inks, this process ensures the ultimate standard of quality, perfect color fidelity, and infinite repeatability—the fundamental pillars for collectible contemporary art.

GRAPHIS BEST 100 EXHIBITION · SAN FRANCISCO
We are thrilled to announce that our series of custom illustrations for the Epson "Spectacular" Calendar traveled to San Francisco for the prestigious global Graphis Best100 Exhibition.
Hosted by the renowned Academy of Art University at the historic The Cannery galleries, the exhibition celebrated the top 100 outstanding visual works of the year, carefully curated from the winners of the international Graphis Awards.
This project for Epson continues to achieve extraordinary international acclaim. Alongside the prestigious Gold Medal awarded to us by the Society of Illustrators in New York (Illustrators 66), the series won the highest global honor with the Graphis Platinum Design Award. This landmark achievement secured our work a spot in the San Francisco physical gallery and a feature on page 40 of the official exhibition catalog, highlighting our illustrations for August (the swimmers) and September (the runner).
For those who couldn't attend the gallery in person, the complete digital showcase of the 100 selected masterpieces is permanently available online. You can explore the archive by registering directly through the official Graphis link:
